Go Fish

People love to tell stories of their fishing adventures (“It was this big!”).

When it comes to faith, however, most of us clam up.

Why is it we can’t talk about what God has done in our lives as naturally as we can spin fishing tales?

This Revive series equips you with tools that will help you make sharing your faith a natural part of your life.

Know what you believe and why.

This Revive series explains the history, background, and beliefs of the largest world religions and cultic groups, including Islam, Buddhism, Hinduism, Mormonism, Jehovah’s Witnesses and more.

  • How is Mormonism different from Christianity?
  • When Jehovah’s Witnesses say they believe in Jesus, what do they actually believe about Him?
  • What is the difference between Sunni and Shi’ite Muslims?
  • What do I say to a friend, neighbor or co-worker of another faith?

With so much false information about God around us, it is important to know what you believe and why.

Anxious for Nothing

Max Lucado (DVD series)

Over the past few decades, studies have   shown that Americans are the most anxious people in the world. We take the most medication for it, see doctors to treat it, and spend fortunes trying to relieve it.

How have we let our fears get the better of us?

In Anxious for Nothing, Max Lucado leads readers to reflect on the promises of Philippians 4:4-8. This passage from Paul's epistle contains an antidote to anxiety that will help you develop a mindset of resilience.

Rediscover the power of prayer and take control of your thoughts. You can rest in "the peace of God, which surpasses all understanding.

Know Your Enemy

 Taught by Elder Bob Stewart

The Bible teaches that Satan wages an ancient and ongoing battle against the  Godhead and it can be seen playing  out daily in our world and society.

Scripture is clear on the person, motives, methods and eventual certain defeat of  this powerful enemy.

Let’s be sure with the Apostle Paul that “we are not unaware of his schemes.”

This series by Ran Vander Laan is entitled "That the World May Know".  We studied two volumes from this series, leading up to Resurrection Sunday.

The first was "Walking with God in the Desert".

The second was "Death and Resurrection of the Messiah".

Does God have a perfect will for each Christian? Can you be 100% sure of God’s individual will for your life? Do questions like these leave you feeling burdened or unsureof how to make that next big decision?

Teachers: Elders Kirt Kisling & Bob Stewart explored what the Bible says about decision making and the Will of God.

August-October 2016: Doing Good (Titus)

Author :  Chip Ingram

Teacher: Larry Ferreira.

If Christians are “saved by grace,” totally apart from good works, what difference does it make if we Do Good or not? In this series, from the book of Titus, Chip reveals that there are four key reasons why Doing Good matters so much. He also explains how we can become people who habitually Do Good – and the first step begins with who we are, not what we do. According to scripture, Doing Good is not just a suggestion, it is very powerful, and can be costly. Chip encourages us, however, that the price of not Doing Good, can be even more costly. This series clarifies what Doing Good will do in you and then through you, for the benefit of others and the glory of God.

April-June 2016: Biblical Perspective on Medical Ethics

This class was taught by Dr. Bob Stewart, who is one of our Elders.

How do we honor God when faced with difficult, sometimes life and death decisions about ourselves, our families and our community, at a time when our society steps away from Biblical standards?

January-March 2016: Real Conversations

This class, taught by Elder Kirt Kisling, focused on real conversations had with real people about a variety of spiritual issues.

We met Javier, who doesn’t believe the Bible is a reliable source of information about Jesus; Franklin who wants to know if Buddhism is compatible with Christianity because he believes he’s a Christian Buddhist, and others with questions like,  "Is it okay to want things?” or  “ Why would I want to love a God who sends people to hell?”. These are actual conversations.

April-November 2015: Genesis In & Out

The book of Genesis

January-March 2015: "That's the Spirit"

This study was based on the book, "He That is Spiritual", by Lewis Sperry Chafer.

October-December 2014, Revive class format

   . "Foundations."         Craig van Zandt

For new believers: What does it mean to be a Christian? What does your salvation mean to you, and, what does it mean to Jesus? Do you know why you believe what you believe, or even what you believe? Can the Bible be trusted? What is faith and how do I walk by faith?

  •   “Forgiveness:  the Puzzle and the Pieces."                         Kirt Kisling

Forgiveness is at the core of our faith and vital to our relationships here on earth. But many  questions come up when we try to be forgiving: should we forgive someone who isn’t repentant? If I forgive, do I need to pretend the offense never happened? Is “forgive and forget” biblical?

  •  (Momentum Group):  "Crazy Love;
    Overwhelmed by
    a Relentless God.”
                                         Pastor Mike Baker

A Scripture-based look at who God is, what kind of love He has showered on us, and how we should live as a result.  This is a discussion-oriented group who seeks to not only understand the character of God but what it means to live our lives in a compelling, authentic community because of what He has done for us.

May-September 2014: J.O.Y : Jesus- Others- You

We are looking at a book in the New Testament written by a man whose life circumstances gave him every reason to give up on life, himself & anything having to do with God, but he didn’t quit.  No, in fact, he wrote a letter to a church—the message of his letter reveals his disposition and is desperately needed by all ages in the church today. It’s a message of JOY.

Since May 18, we are diving into the book of Philippians and learning what it means to experience real joy—individually and as a community of Christ followers.

March-April 2014: From Panic to Praise

“Biblical Principles for responding to difficulties”

Ever found yourself between a rock and a hard place? That might not be a big deal if you have a few sticks of dynamite and a couple million bucks…but for most of us, that’s a place we don’t want to find ourselves. But what if some of the most important lessons in our lives can only be processed in just such a situation?

On March 2, we began a New 7-week series in Revive, picking up where Pastor Mike left off in the discussion of pain and suffering. In this new series, “From Panic to Praise”, we are learning and discussing specific principles and strategies necessary for responding to difficulties.

This series is based on Exodus 14, where we see that, even in the midst of seemingly impossible situations, God can make a way that will move us from fear to faith. The Red Sea may roll before us, the desert may entrap us, and the enemy may press on our heels. The past may seem implausible and the future impossible, but God works in ways we cannot see. He will make a way of escape for His weary, but waiting, children, even if He must split the sea to do it.

January-February 2014

It’s all around us:  terrible things happen, often to those who seem to least deserve it.  Why does God let this happen? How could God be good and yet let evil exist?  How should we, as Christians, respond to the pain and suffering in the world?  We spent several weeks looking at what the Bible has to say about these topics, discovering not only how we should think about evil in the world but also, practically, how we should respond when it touches our lives.
